Steve Hauschildt (of Emeralds) @ La Suite - Paris

I really like this guy.  He is one of the members of Emeralds.  I find Emeralds to be a little cheesy, but I love Steve Hauschildt's solo albums.

#1 indie track of the year.  Unknown artist interpreting “The Farmer in the Dell” in the context of pinball.

Tonight’s literary selection.

I was just reading this to Ruby this morning!
How do you pronounce “…nnn…nnn…nnn…”?

I love children’s books.  Reading to Leo is a great joy for me.  (And he seems to like it too!)  I just don’t like Sandra Boynton.  Her illustrations are good, but I find her writing to be 3rd rate.  Her rhymes are often forced, and lack any cleverness whatsoever.
Example from “The Going to Bed Book”:
"And when the moon is on the rise, they all go up to exercise!"
Huh?  Exercising before bed?  What happened here?  I can’t help but think she couldn’t come up with a good rhyme for “rise”.  Either that or she thought a page about exercising belongs in a book about getting ready for bed.  Maybe I’ve just read this book too many times :)
Anyway, that’s 1 Dad’s opinion.
Some of my favorites? I’ll leave that for another post.

Paul Simon + Ladysmith Black Mambazo

Diamonds on the souls of her shoes

For a lover of South African music (me), Graceland cannot be denied.  Among other things, how about that BASS!

Townes Van Vandt - Mr. Gold and Mr. Mud

I think this is the best cards song ever, and I’ll say that while standing on a Coffee table.  I was hoping to find a Willie Nelson version for covers Friday, but Townes live version + a terrific joke will certainly do.

Is this the game where you make a ring out of your fingers and try to get your friends to look at it?  If it is, then well done George.  You got me and the rest of tumblr but good.  And from the grave nonetheless!

Parents who leave their kids in the sandbox

jessgetsmad:

Sand cannot baby sit your child.  No matter how nice and clean the sand is, it is not a babysitter.  You do not have to sit right on the edge of the sandbox (although you should), but you do have to actually watch/hear/check in on your kids.  Otherwise they throw sand, hit, and grab toys.
